Give me a bowl of guacamole or salsa, some homemade low carb tortilla chips and a margarita and you’ve pretty much envisioned my dream life. But of course, no traditional corn tortilla chips for me! So I decided to make my own. Making your ownlow carb paleo tortilla chips recipe (aka a low carb alternative to tortilla chips!) may sound like a big project… but when you love dips as much as I do, no project is too big. You agree, right?

And really, these paleo chips are EASY and take just 10 minutes to prep. Yes, that’s it. And while it’s fantastic that they are easy to make, I also love that they are packed with healthy ingredients like almond flour, flax meal, sesame seeds, and chia seeds.

They may taste like a snack food, but they are nutritious little bites! One serving of grain-free tortilla chips has less than 150 calories and boasts 6 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and just 2 grams of net carbs. Pretty good for a low carb alternative to tortilla chips, don’t you think?

So grab your guacamole, make your margarita, and get snacking! And if your dream life looks like mine? You may just want to double the batch…

How To Make Low Carb Tortilla Chips

First, we mix together all of the dry ingredients and then mix in the egg whites. The mixture will be slightly crumbly, but it will stick together, don’t worry!

Next, we roll it out in a thin layer. The thinner you can roll out the almond flour tortilla chips, the crunchier they will be! Make sure that they are an even thickness throughout too, or some chips will cook faster than others.

PRO TIP: to get a perfectly shaped keto tortilla chips, cut out circles using an inverted bowl. Then you just need to cut them into wedge shapes. A pizza cutter makes this job quick and easy.

Then the grain-free tortilla chips simply need to be baked. Spread them out on a lined baking sheet and make sure they have plenty of space.

TIP: Baking time will vary depending on the exact thickness of the chips and your oven.Mine took 16 minutes. Watch them closely, because they go from crisp to burnt easily!

Are Corn Tortilla Chips Paleo or Low Carb?

No, corn tortilla chips are not paleo or low carb. Why not? Because traditional tortilla chips are made with corn. While corn is gluten-free, it is considered more of a grain than a vegetable, making it not paleo friendly. Corn is also very high in carbs, so is not a low carb food.

It’s precisely why I wanted to come up with a low carb alternative to tortilla chips that’s also paleo-friendly. I’m so happy with the result and I know you will be, too.

How To Store Grain-free Tortilla Chips

Store these grain-free tortilla chips in an airtight container at room temperature. If they lose some of their crispness, put them in a hot oven for a minute or two and they’ll get crunchy again. They are best within a few days, but I doubt you’ll have them for that long.

What To Serve With Paleo Tortilla Chips

The best part about almond flour tortilla chips? The dips that go along with them, of course! I don’t think there is a dip that doesn’t go well with paleo snacks, but these are some of my favorites:

  • The Best Vegan Queso
  • Homemade Easy Pico de Gallo

More TIPS about this paleo recipe in the post above!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).

  2. In a medium sized bowl, combine ingredients in order and stir until well combined. Split dough in half and roll into a ball.

  3. Place ball of dough between two layers of parchment paper. First flatten with the palm of your hand, and then roll with rolling pin. Dough should be about 1/8 inch (3mm) thick.

  4. Once flattened, cut dough into a smaller circle. (I traced an inverted cereal bowl to make sure it was perfectly round.) With a round pizza cutter, cut chips into triangular shapes. Repeat until all of your dough is used.

  5. Place chips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave about 1 inch (25 mm) between chips.

  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Carefully flip chips over and bake an additional 6 minutes, or until crisp.
